At Oliasoft, we deliver innovative, modern well engineering software that gives drilling engineers the tools to work faster, with greater precision and automation. Our bi-weekly updates ensure that WellDesign evolves continuously — aligning with industry standards, user feedback, and the needs of digital drilling teams.
The latest update, v3.689, introduces powerful improvements to trajectory design workflows, annotations across charts, casing design calculations, and temperature simulations — all designed to make well planning smarter, faster, and more consistent.
Editor type setting
A new setting is now available at both the Company and User level to define the default editor type when creating a new trajectory. Users can choose between:
Directional Difficulty Index (DDI) is now available for all Prototype and Planned designs. The DDI is displayed in the wellbore object list and can be activated through the company and user settings.
Users can now define global annotations for a wellbore within a project. These annotations can be displayed across all 2D charts (Plan View, Section View, DLS View, and Inc/Azi View).
Annotations are defined in a table located in the right-hand drawer and are referenced to the measured depth (MD) of the wellbore.
This functionality will be made available for the 3D view in the next release.
For the conductor section the user has the option of toggling “Jetting” to set up an uncemented conductor. This option has now been renamed to “Uncemented”.
Cement Volumes has been moved from Well Schematic to Well Calculator in the right-hand side drawer.
Both plots now reference the Axial Rating rather than the Yield Rating of the casing. This aligns with how triaxial safety factors are calculated.
The update will only affect Special Pipe types, where the Axial Rating differs from the Yield multiplied by the cross-sectional area of the pipe.
The calculation has been updated for cases where the TOC is located below the previous shoe:
From the hanger to the prior casing shoe, pressure is calculated using pore pressure at the previous shoe.
At the top of cement (TOC), pressure equals pore pressure.
From the previous shoe to the casing shoe, the pore pressure gradient from the TOC is applied, resulting in a pressure jump at the previous shoe.
A tooltip has been added for “PBR seal” functionality inside Load cases, making it easier for users to understand its function and impact
The animation for fracking operation temperature simulations has been updated to provide a clearer and more accurate visualization
The “Composition” input box containing the options PVT and Black Oil has been removed. The default option is now PVT, but users can still create a Black Oil fluid in the Reservoir module by selecting Custom under “Reservoir fluid.”
If a user is logged into Oliasoft WellDesign at the time of release, a link to the release notes is included in the notification dialogue box.
Fixed simulation chaining issue for Shut in operations in new temperature simulation rulesets.
