This summer, we welcomed six talented interns to Oliasoft as part of our 2026 Summer Internship Program. Over the past six weeks, they have worked across our Software Development, Finance, and Marketing departments, gaining valuable insight into Oliasoft's operations, collaborating with experienced colleagues, and contributing to meaningful projects within their respective teams.

Can you share some details about the projects you are working on this summer?
This summer, I built an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server connecting large language models to Oliasoft's WellDesign API, exposing data as structured tools an AI can act on. On top of it, I developed Co-Engineer, an AI chat assistant embedded directly in the WellDesign application, giving engineers a natural-language interface to their own project data. Together, they let engineers query, compare, and create well designs through conversation, with sensitive write actions gated behind a human-in-the-loop approval flow built on CASL-based authorization. Along the way, I collaborated closely with colleagues in customer success and data engineering on API integration, authentication, and frontend design. The result is a working proof of concept for AI-assisted well design.
What do you enjoy most about working at Oliasoft?
What I enjoy most about working at Oliasoft is the physical and social environment. The office facilities are great, and you can sense that people here genuinely enjoy their work and believe in Oliasoft's vision. That energy is contagious and pushes me to do my best. I've also valued the social events Oliasoft offers, from the summer party and afterwork gatherings to show-and-tell sessions. All of them bring a real sense of community. On top of that, there's a low threshold for asking for and receiving help. Whenever I needed something for my project, people would bump it up on their to-do list or add it to the next sprint, which I was completely dependent on to get my project finished.
If you had to describe your summer at Oliasoft in three words, what would they be?
Exciting, educational, and fun.

What aspect of your internship do you find the most interesting and engaging?
The most engaging part of the internship has been how much responsibility I've been given. I have really enjoyed not being micromanaged. The employees have been very helpful whenever I reached out, but it's been my responsibility to get the job done and see it through. I've had the opportunity to map out my own direction, set goals, and put my own vision into action, rather than simply following a predetermined path. This has pushed me to think further ahead than I usually do. I've had to weigh different approaches and consider the possible outcomes of my decisions before moving forward. I also had the opportunity to sit in on a meeting with a customer, which was a lot of fun and gave me valuable insight into how client relationships are handled.
Can you tell us about your collaborative project, and what role you had in it?
Our collaborative project has been to build a prototype for a report-generating module. Our mission is to give Oliasoft a clear idea of what the task demands and how it could be implemented in practice. I've been working together with Hans-Linus on this project, and we've regularly had sit-downs to talk through progress and map out the next steps together. It's always nice to have someone to work with. You get help when you need it and can challenge each other's thinking, so you end up with the best possible outcome.

What motivated you to apply for the internship?
I wanted some real, hands-on experience to apply what I'd learned from my economics studies, not just theory. Oliasoft felt like a great fit since I'd get to work with real financial data and reporting in a company that's part of the energy industry, and I liked the idea of building skills I'll actually use later on.
What has been your best or most rewarding experience so far?
Getting to see what a typical day actually looks like here has been really valuable, and I've learned a lot about CRM systems along the way. I've also picked up a lot about oil drilling and the industry more broadly, which has been genuinely interesting.
What's one thing on your desk you can't work without?
My AirPods. Listening to music helps me get into the zone.

Can you tell us more about the projects you've been working on this summer?
This summer, I have worked on a persona development project focused on strengthening Oliasoft's understanding of its customers and target audiences. The project has provided valuable insight into customer segmentation, audience profiling, and communication strategies. I have also had the opportunity to put these insights into practice by developing targeted LinkedIn content and working with analytics tools such as LinkedIn Analytics and Google Ads.
A major project throughout my internship has been a comprehensive competitor analysis. This involved evaluating competitors' websites from both a design and content perspective, as well as assessing their social media presence. The project has given me a broader understanding of Oliasoft's competitive landscape and market positioning, while providing valuable insights that can support future marketing initiatives.
What do you enjoy most about working at Oliasoft?
It has been a great experience being part of Oliasoft this summer. What I have enjoyed most is the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution while continuously learning. From the very beginning, I've been encouraged to take ownership of a variety of tasks, which has made every week different and provided valuable hands-on experience.
The work environment at Oliasoft has also made a lasting impression. Working closely with colleagues who bring both deep expertise and genuine enthusiasm to their work has been a constant source of motivation. The combination of meaningful responsibilities, diverse challenges, and a strong team culture has made my internship at Oliasoft a truly rewarding experience.

What has been your best or most rewarding experience so far?
Working on the transient cuttings erosion and transport model. It's still in progress but getting the pieces to come together and seeing the behavior start to line up with the physics has been the most rewarding part. Coming from a mechanical engineering background, I'm used to established methods and tooling, so building something exploratory from the ground up, and in software, has been a good stretch into new territory.
What's something you've learned about yourself this summer?
That I work well with open-ended problems. My earlier engineering work usually had a defined approach to follow. Here there's no set answer for what the model should look like, and I found I prefer defining the structure myself over being handed it.

What can you share about the project(s) you're involved in this summer?
This summer, another intern, Linus, and I have been working on a reporting tool for WellDesign intended to make writing reports more streamlined. We've been scoping how it could be implemented and what it could look like by finding ways of integrating existing data into a usable format with the help of AI.
What's a specific moment from this summer that stands out to you?
A moment that stands out is joining a meeting with Equinor regarding our project and learning a bit about what kind of tool the industry needs, and how it could be better than what they have now.
