The Industry Challenge
The well construction industry sits on decades of accumulated data that remains largely inaccessible. Locked inside proprietary databases, scattered across disconnected tools, and stored in obsolete formats, the industry’s data cannot be queried easily, connected to modern applications, or used to power AI and analytics workflows. It simply lies frozen in time, requiring expensive legacy infrastructure to even read.
01
Historical well data is trapped inside EDM and other proprietary databases, with no published schema, no open API, and no standard export format.
02
AI and automation initiatives cannot advance without trusted, structured engineering data to power them.
03
Operators must pay for ongoing database licensing fees, dedicated DBA staffing, and annual maintenance contracts simply to keep their own data accessible.
04
Manual, multi-month migrations require bespoke engineering efforts that are so complex and costly that modernization stalls before it starts.
The Oliasoft Solution
Oliasoft Atlas™ is a cloud-native structured data platform that’s fully independent of legacy systems and applications. It stores, manages, and shares well data across your tools and services, delivering a modern data foundation built specifically for well engineering workflows.
01
A central, secure repository for well engineering globally available 24/7 without internal infrastructure costs
02
Automated extraction, validation, and normalization of legacy EDM data that transforms historical wells into live, active assets.
03
Powerful dashboards giving data managers direct access to archived data and operational records, simplifying offset well analysis.
04
Every entity exposed via documented endpoints, enabling customers to connect any system to Atlas for auditable, traceable bi-directional data exchange.
05
The middleware layer for all external data flows, eliminating many-to-many integration complexity.
06
OAuth and role-based access for internal and external parties, with a full audit trail on every data event.
07
Implements the Model Context Protocol (MCP), enabling operators’ AI agents to read and write well data.
08
Store IPM files, PDFs, and large objects alongside structured well data, providing a complete archive for every asset.
Unlocking data, unlocking value
When historical well data is migrated with Oliasoft Atlas™, it stops being a legacy liability and becomes an active engineering asset.
How Oliasoft Atlas works
Oliasoft Atlas™ maps legacy EDM data directly to our modern WellDesign data structures, transforming your historical wells into active engineering assets in the cloud. The process runs in four steps.
Automated extraction from legacy EDM databases. Raw source data is stored in Atlas for future re-extraction without loss of fidelity.
Data integrity checks and normalization rules ensure quality. Missing data is identified and, where possible, reconstructed.
Data is mapped to WellDesign and standardized across hierarchy, trajectories, BHAs, casing depths, and coordinates.
Historical wells become engineering-ready assets in WellDesign, connected to third-party software through open APIs.

Supported data types after migration
Mapping well data into a new system requires that the system understands what the data means: how casing design relates to pressure prognoses, how survey data feeds anti-collision analysis, how thermal loads interact with material properties. A generic data platform can’t validate whether a migrated dataset is internally consistent. But Oliasoft Atlas™ can, because the same data model that powers Atlas also powers WellDesign’s simulation engines.
That creates something no other vendor offers: closed-loop validation. Your migrated data is verified by running it through our production calculations — the same engines that perform triaxial stress analysis, anti-collision checks, and hydraulic simulations for operators every day. Instead of a brute-force data dump, a semantically aware transformation between two well engineering data models, and Oliasoft is the only company that has both sides fully mapped and tested.
The Full Dataset
Not all EDM data lives in places a generic tool can reach. Oliasoft Atlas™ covers the full scope with three complementary methods:
via Landmark Analyzer handles the vast majority of structured EDM data.
reconstructs wells wherever WellCat files are available.
recreate engineering data trapped in proprietary BLOBs, including load cases and other design parameters that no extraction tool can read.
Every well engineering data type that carries value is migrated directly where it can be extracted and faithfully recreated where it can’t.
Operators can decommission their legacy data platform with confidence that their important well engineering history is preserved and actively usable by every application in their stack.
If you need a data type later that wasn’t part of the original migration, we can extend Oliasoft Atlas™ to support it — and every capability we add becomes available to all customers. You’re not locked into the limits of today’s requirements.
System Architecture
Oliasoft Atlas™ connects legacy data sources, physics-based calculations, and AI orchestration, replacing fragile point-to-point integrations with a single, open core layer.

The open architecture of Oliasoft Atlas™ is the precondition for AI-accelerated well engineering. Autonomy demands a data layer that machines can actually reach.
AI-Native Platform
Oliasoft Atlas™ implements the Model Context Protocol (MCP), a universal integration layer that enables AI agents, internal LLMs, and third-party pipelines to read and write well data with full access control.

Use Cases
Oliasoft Atlas™ addresses the critical data management problems operators face every day across the well engineering lifecycle.
Stores raw EDM data, enabling a clean transition from legacy systems to Oliasoft without losing historical well records.
Frees non-interrogable sources like EDM and makes them available to both Oliasoft applications and third-party analytics as an ELT (Extract Load Transform) service.
Becomes the single hub for all data exchange, eliminating point-to-point integrations and reducing technical debt.
Coordinates, synchronizes, and automates data flows to enable autonomous machine-to-machine workflows across the ecosystem.
Query and dashboard capabilities give engineers immediate access to historical offset well data for planning decisions.
Centralizes cross-product datasets and standardizes access control across internal and external systems.
Product Offering
Oliasoft Atlas™ can be deployed on its own or as a high-performance drilling data layer on top of other data platforms such as OSDU or Cognite Data Fusion. By overcoming the performance and query limitations of general platforms, Atlas gives operators full flexibility in how they architect their data infrastructure. Oliasoft Atlas’s three modules cover the full range of needs.
Subscription service
Cloud-based well data storage that’s secure, versioned, and globally accessible. The foundation for every Atlas deployment.
One-time migration
Extract, load, and transform your full EDM dataset into a modern, open, interrogable format. Decades of well history, unlocked.
Platform + usage
Integrate and automate data and workflows across all your services and products, with platform access built for high-volume use.
We recommend a pilot migration covering one asset (50 to 200 wells). A pilot delivers three things: a proof of concept on your real data, not a demo environment; a concrete data-quality assessment of your EDM source; and a validated set of migrated wells, live in WellDesign for offset analysis and planning from day one. From there, the path to full-scale migration across your entire well inventory is well-defined and repeatable. Contact us today to free your data.
Oliasoft Atlas™ is the data foundation for modern well engineering — ready for workflows, analytics, and AI.
